Physiotherapists

Qualifications
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (UQ)

Areas of Interest
My two main areas of interest are rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery and management of adolescent sports injuries.

Why I became a Physiotherapist
After playing a lot of sport from a young age and suffering my share of injuries along the way, the physiotherapy profession appealed to me. I liked the idea of being able to help make people better so they could get back to doing what they enjoyed sooner.

Something else about me
I have lived in Toowoomba for 13 years and I am the current president of Red Lion Hockey Club here in town.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (Hons I in Human Anatomy)
Masters of Physiotherapy Studies (The University of Queensland)

Areas of Interest
Any acute limb as you can usually see a lot of change quickly with good management. However, I have a personal interest in neck, shoulder and knee injuries from having had my own significant injuries in these areas. I also enjoy covering sports as you get to watch something interesting and it gets the heart going if there is an injury.

Why I became a Physiotherapist
As an active teenager I found myself regularly needing physio for various niggles and developed an awareness of the impact that a good physio can have on someone’s recovery and return to their chosen activity. Having grown up in a family of pharmacists, I have always had an interest in healthcare and being very keen on my sport, in particular rugby union and more recently, rugby 7’s, Physiotherapy ticked all the boxes.

Something else about me
After I graduated, I worked in Darwin for 2 years in a large sports based practice before returning to Brisbane for a year, prior to moving to Toowoomba in 2017. I have worked extensively with men’s and women’s rugby union and rugby 7’s, AFL and I have covered at masters games working across a number of different sports. My preference is contact sports because that’s what I grew up playing and I am still an avid fan.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (CSU – Orange, NSW)

Areas of Interest
I have always been interested in Women’s Health, however since becoming a mother myself this has heightened as we can really make a huge difference to women’s quality of life. I am also interested in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic rehabilitation.

Why I became a Physiotherapist
I have always loved playing sport and being active. I wanted to help people to be able to improve their quality of life and return to the activities they love and enjoy, whatever that may be!

Something else about me
I come from a property in Warialda, NSW and love to get back to the farm and see my family when I can. I have an 18 month old daughter who keeps me busy most days!
Qualifications
UQ Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)

Areas of Interest
I enjoy treating a range of injuries, the variety available in private practice is what made me choose to move on from aged care.

Why I became a Physiotherapist
I was always interested in the medical field and originally planned to do medicine but was accepted into physio and have loved it ever since. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect and the close relationship we can build with patients. I am proud to be part of a profession that is constantly evolving with new research regularly being published for better approaches to treatment, particularly with injuries that have previously only been treated surgically.

Something else about me
I have moved to Toowoomba from Brisbane this year and am enjoying getting to know the area.

Why I became a Physiotherapist
I always knew I wanted to work in health, and when the opportunity presented for me to study physio, I was sceptical but thought I’d give it a go. Since then I haven’t looked back, best decision I have made!

Something else about me
If we’re after a fun fact: I’m a country girl who grew up on a property outside of Miles, QLD along with my seven siblings.

If we’re after things I like to do in my free time: I like to stay active either at the gym or outside hiking, but I’m happiest when I’m playing board games.
